Al Cook

Al Cook is the founder of The Albert T. T. Cook Company, which he led from its establishment as a registered investment advisor in 1987 until its rebranding as The Cook Company, LLC in January 2025. While he no longer provides advisory services to the firm's clients, he continues to be an important adviser and counsellor to the firm.

Starting the company was a culmination of Al’s various experiences in the nonprofit, government, and private sectors. While these sectors had their own unique characteristics, a common theme was the importance of listening to people, understanding their needs and goals, then identifying and securing the resources necessary to realize a desired outcome. It is these skills that formed the foundation of his work with clients of The Cook Company.

Immediately prior to founding The Cook Company, Al held positions at investment banks in Denver including Boettcher and Company and Dain Bosworth, and Colorado National Bank. In these positions, he primarily worked as a municipal bond underwriter, where he worked with municipal, county, and tribal governments in Montana, Idaho, and Washington to fund needed public infrastructure. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Al’s positions took him all over the U.S. to live, including stints in Texas, Florida, New Hampshire, and New York before moving to Colorado. He received an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College and an A.M. from the University of Chicago.

An avid world-traveler, Al and his wife, Mary Jane, regularly venture around the globe. They have visited all seven continents, including Antarctica where Al participated in a polar plunge. In addition to travel, Al is a prolific woodworker. He also enjoys the outdoors through camping and hiking, and is always immersed in a book or two. He and Mary Jane have three children and six grandchildren.
